Rejected mail

Postby spkeller » Wed Feb 17th, 2016 4:29pm

Mailtraq Version: 2.17.7.3516
Hi, I'm getting email that is being rejected by Mailtraq. The error is 550 message header was 162 lines - check header for corruption or loop...
The person sending these emails is also sending 'acceptable' emails about 50% of the time. I'm trying to find a way to tell Mailtraq to allow these, but I can't find a way to do that.
Or, is there a better way of allowing these?

I'm damned if I can find it in the Console (.3566 MD) but check the MaxHeaderLines entry for the smtp service(s) in system.cfg -- default is 150, I think. It's a potentially useful safeguard against senders exposing hundreds of addresses in To, Cc headers, etc.

(Live changes aren't supported in vaguely recent versions so shutdown+backup before editing system.cfg).

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Sometimes the fan is hit with so much stuff at once...

I checked a quite a few of the rejected messages and 163 lines was the highest. I changed the config to 170.
I'll monitor it for a few days and see what happens.

Thanks for your assistance.

I'm cursed; it was hiding in plain sight: SMTP Service -> Properties -> Abuse | Maximum Header Lines

Parsing the logs for "550 message header was " should show the previous sizes...

I changed these to 170 and the emails are still getting rejected. I need to get this fixed asap.
Is there any way to whitelist the sending domain?

Change the value; try something much larger...

... I don't know if it will by-pass the max header size check but try [SMTP Service] -> Blacklists -> White Lists | Senders *@example.com

The emails are getting through now, at least none have been blocked since the 11th. I'll continue to monitor it for a while.

Thank you.

Did you keep it at 170 or change it to something higher?
Have you see the Hydromax review on https://www.the5x5project.com/my-hydrom ... ew-results

I'm sitting at 200 now.
I did have a few legit emails get blocked at 203, but I'm sticking to 200 for now.
