Advanced Outgoing Mail Router (

The new outgoing mail router has been in development for quite some time and was previously called the Experimental Router in the release notes. As of this build there is a user interface option in the Remote Console to enable it (Options | Outgoing Mail | Options tab). Note that you cannot see or activate the new router unless you are using the Remote Console.

What is advanced about the new router?

It is designed from the ground up to be a very high performance component. We have worked with a number of clients to ensure this router meets their high demands. One of our clients is a shipping broker with around 30,000 outgoing messages per day and the server is a very slow I/O bound virtual computer (VPS). Occasionally the router has to deal with bursts of 120,000 messages and the new router is designed so that progress can be constantly monitored. With the predominance of greylisting this system has to handle efficient retry strategies when the queue is large.

The new router includes a DNS resolver built from scratch to be efficient and lightweight. Statistics are kept on all the DNS hosts that are used to determine the usage ratio and the system adapts quickly to DNS outages. Modern Delivery Reports are generated that are RFC 3464 compliant.
