Moderating Messages (

Postby Elric Pedder » Fri May 04th, 2012 5:26pm

The concept of "Moderating" messages has traditionally been tied to mailing lists where a moderator has the role of deciding whether or not a post to the list should be distributed by the list. Mailtraq has always provided this function by accepting messages re-submitted by the moderator using standard e-mail transport. Recently a command was added in the Remote Console to automatically perform this re-submission, based on the presumption that the message held for moderation was presently in the moderator's mailbox.

In this build of Mailtraq the moderating tools have been improved and usage expanded.

Outgoing Mail

A new tab has been added to the Outgoing Properties dialogue labelled Moderate where it is now possible to send all (or a filtered subset of) outgoing mail to a moderator for approval.

Mail sent for moderation in this manner includes the header X-Original-Sender: and the contents are returned to the Sender: when the Approve command is used.

WebMail Approval Tool

The Approve command provided in the Remote Console is now also available in WebMail. However it must first be enabled in the user's Options dialogue as it can be an awkward or confusing command to see if you aren't specifically responsible for moderating messages.

Part of the work on moderating done in this build has been to address the possibly tedious task of moving a message incorrectly identified as spam back to the original sender. This is of course a type of message moderation so it makes sense to combine the task and now the Approve command (whether in the Remote Console or WebMail) can also perform this function. Once again the message must be in the mailbox that matches the Redirect to setting in the relevant Anti-Spam settings.
